How to get started singing Karaoke
Practice, Practice, Practice. For your own comfort and confidence, you will want to practice at home before reaching your favorite Karaoke venue. A Karaoke machine is a great investment and can be purchased for as little as $40 (these usually connect to your stereo or TV). Although the less expensive machines may not be the most powerful, they will still help with your practice sessions.
For those truly bitten by the Karaoke bug, an investment of $200-$250 will purchase a professional-quality JVC or RSQ brand single tray player that connects to your stereo. Practicing with a Karaoke machine can help a beginning singer improve very rapidly.
Start by learning one song, then ask someone you trust to critique your performance. Recording yourself singing is also a great way to follow your own progress. (But if you aren’t happy after ten attempts or so, the song may not be the best selection for your voice range and style.) Should you need to, select another song and begin anew. A good way to find new songs is to jot down song titles and artists of your favorite songs while listening to other Karaoke singers.
After mastering one song, find another – and then another. And keep practicing! Your audience will thank you for it. It will be these three songs that help you to become a polished singer.
Always sing your best song first - this is the one that will make the optimum impression and “wow” your audience.
